Tennis elbow is a term given to a condition that refers to pain in the arm and especially the elbow area due to overuse of the muscles surrounding the joint. The name comes from the wide number of tennis players who experience this pain because of the torque and pressure the joints that this sport causes. However, this is a common condition and not limited only to athletes and tennis players. In fact, this type of pain can come from any overuse of the arms from too much typing with improper hand and arm placement to working highly active movement jobs like busy convenience stores, fast food, or even factory jobs.

While we’re going to go into some of the common causes and helpful treatments for tennis elbow it’s very important to note that this article is informational in nature and should not be construed at all as actual medical advice because it’s not. If you injured yourself and the pain persists, check with a doctor to make sure it’s not a more serious injury. No article or amount of information should ever take the place of firsthand knowledge from a physician.

What are the common causes of tennis elbow?

The most common cause of tennis elbow is overuse of the muscles and ligaments surrounding the elbow. This condition affects people who must work using repetitive arm, shoulder, and elbow movements and gets its name because while only 1 to 3% of the population ever experiences tennis elbow, nearly 50% of tennis players experience this sometime in their career. This being said, less than 5% of all cases of tennis elbow actually come from playing tennis, making this condition much more common than many people realize.

The overuse of those muscles due to repetitive motion is what causes this condition. This is extremely important to understand, because it’s a long term injury that results from over stressing those muscles over and over again and it is not caused by one single event or one single injury. Because of this, early soreness or pain should be treated very seriously.

What is the treatment for tennis elbow?

The good news is that tennis elbow almost never requires surgery, and treating the condition early can lead to a complete recovery. For some extreme cases cortisone injections are used, but often times less extreme measures can work. The key is to reduce the usage of the elbow, give the joint plenty of rest, and reduce inflammation. In minor cases this can mean that ibuprofen might be enough medication to help out, along with cold followed by heat and simply resting the limb more often. Even if that turns out to not be enough for your tennis elbow, it’s good treatment that you should practice anyway.

While many people have aches and pain from time to time, few aches can be more annoying or debilitating than neck pain. While it can be natural to have some aching muscles or soreness from time to time, neck pain is something that often needs to be dealt with. A sore neck or pinched or tight muscles in the neck can lead to a wide array of other problems like a sore back, headaches, migraines, sore shoulders, general aching, and just an overall feeling of ill health. Many times the causes can be easily treated, but the neck is always a delicate part of the body and it’s important to take all neck pain or injuries seriously.

First, before getting into common causes of neck pain and popular remedies, let’s be sure to make one thing clear: if you have had serious neck problems, were in a car accident, sports injury, or have really serious symptoms like numbness in your neck or limbs, tingling, or sharp shooting pains – you should stop reading this article and go to a doctor. Neck injuries are not to be messed with, and any time you have any worries about your neck even from something that might seem mild long a long period of mild soreness, consult your physician. Always trust the professionals for advice on matters like these.

That said, if the neck pain is not from injury or trauma but is muscle soreness or less severe every day issues then there are a few common causes and common remedies which might be able to give you some relief as long as the injury isn’t serious and the pain is minor.

Looking at common neck pain causes

There are many common causes which can result in neck pain. One of the first places to look is your bedding situation. Whether it’s from too thin a pillow, lack of support from the mattress, or you sleeping in an awkward position, many times neck pain comes in the morning after something wasn’t right. If you’re a side sleeper and have to fold up your pillow to get comfortable, that’s a definite sign you need a new pillow and a firmer one. This not only isn’t the most comfortable angle, but the fold causes the pillow to push back against your head. After six to eight hours of sleep, that pressure adds up.

A mattress that’s too hard or too soft can also result in your spine being in an uncomfortable position and that can affect your neck. If you find yourself stretching your neck or hearing cracking noises when you roll your head, this could be a sign that the mattress is at fault. Think about your body position as you’re going to sleep. Would you keep your neck in that position for eight hours awake? If the answer is a strong no, then you need to readjust how you’re positioned for sleep.

Other common factors which can lead to mild neck pain include stress, sore shoulder muscles which pull on the neck, or from uncomfortable movement (like using your head to keep a cell phone in place). Recognizing these causes is the first step to eliminating them.

Treating basic neck pain

There are several ways to treat neck pain. If your issue is muscle or stress related, one of the best ways is to have a warm or hot compress on your back and shoulders to relax the muscles. Taking a long hot shower while concentrating the water on the back of your shoulders and neck can help loosen and relax you. If you have the money, get a 30 minute massage. This can relax all the muscles in the area and help you feel better. Some people have reported going to a chiropractor as helping although there are split opinions on this.

Finally, stay hydrated. This sounds strange and might not directly work as treatment as well as some of the other options listed, but hydration can affect everything and that stiffness in the neck or headache you think is being caused by neck soreness could actually be a headache from not being hydrated enough which means drinking water could take away the headache, which could be the actual cause of the neck pain and not a symptom.

If your body has good posture, the skeleton and muscles interact efficiently to provide a stable alignment of your body in a vertical plan while standing still and when moving.

Odds are however, that if you are reading this article either yourself or a friend is a sufferer of bad posture. It is an unfortunate fact of life that there are many issues that cause poor posture, and a sizable minority of people suffers from this condition.

This article will briefly outline some of the more frequent triggers of bad posture:

Tiredness

Even with the best of intentions, it is difficult to maintain correct posture when your body is fatigued. Maintaining a straight back is the key to good posture. Attempting to do this for a prolonged period of time without rest will eventually lead to your back muscles tiring, and result in slumping or slouching.

Weak Muscles

Whether through bad genes, a poor exercise regimen, or simply an injury, many of us have muscles in the back that are overly weak. This can cause our body to adjust the way it stands to try to provide relief to these muscles. While this can ‘protect’ an individual muscle, it does so at the expense of imposing unnatural stresses on the rest of our backs.

Foot Issues

If you do not stand with your feet in a posture friendly position, you will adversely impact your spine. Allowing your feet to follow their natural roll inwards will cause ripple effect up your legs to your spine, resulting in slouching. To avoid this always wear good shoes that provide ample support for your feet.

Nutrition

While rare in the Western world, malnutrition is a major problem in some countries that can cause serious issues with posture. A healthy body is essential to good posture, and children raised without adequate nutritious food are likely to have poorly developed muscles and bones – and hence suffer from poor posture.

Psychological Issues

If you are experiencing a lot of stress at home or in the workplace, this can manifest itself in bad posture. To lessen this make a conscious effort to avoid letting the stresses of everyday life impact the way you carry yourself.

Habit

This is probably the most nefarious cause of bad posture. Simple force of habit, combined with laziness, can have the healthiest of people walking with a slouch – this behaviour is the antithesis of what is needed for maintaining or correcting bad posture. Luckily, if habit is the sole cause, this can be addressed yourself by deliberately focusing on maintaining good posture.

As has been explained, there are many possible causes of bad posture. Thankfully, therapies such as the use of a posture corrective brace are available to help address poor posture symptoms and to provide lower back pain relief.

Poor posture can result in many adverse consequences. These include pain, disorders and poor productivity in work and life. Poor posture applies stress to your body; if your body is subjected to this stress over a long period of time then you are at risk of developing certain health problems.

However if you become aware of the problems and act to prevent poor posture, then you may still be able to reverse the unwanted effects that have occurred through the use of a Posture brace.

First things first

First thing we need to understand is the term “poor posture” itself. To paraphrase the definition of poor posture from the Free Physical Therapy Dictionary, it is a relationship that is faulty between the various body parts which results in an increased strain on the body’s support structure which in turn causes a less efficient body balance over the support base. Because of that strain many problems occur. To better help you understand these problems, listed below are the most common side effects that result from bad posture.

A problem in the spine

The first thing to be affected by bad posture is the spine. Many people develop spine problems simply because of hunching, others who acquire problems in the spine due to improper lifting of heavy objects. This disorder often leads to muscles, joints or ligament degeneration. A posture corrective brace might help with this condition, and should be considered along with professional chiropractor care.

Pain

Back and neck pain are the most usual posture-related pains. They are mostly a result of not standing or sitting straight. A major cause of back and neck pains are uncomfortable sleeping positions. If you are doing any of these then make sure you stop and apply proper posture since these are straining your muscles which in turn results in pain.

Feeling tired

If you are working in a competitive environment or you are a businessman then fatigue is about the worst kind of disorder you can get from bad posture. Why? Well, simply because it lowers your productivity. Bad posture strains your muscles and bones making the body waste its energy trying to repair these strained muscles.

How can I correct the problem?

If you have any of these symptoms then you might want to try a posture corrective brace to obtain lower back support. It might be uncomfortable at first but you’ll get use to it. These physical therapy posture aids can be a boon to your well being. Couple the posture corrective brace with prescribed back pain exercises and a determined mind then you’ll be back to normal in no time.

A back support brace, also known as a posture corrective brace, is a device worn in an attempt to prove ones posture. By improving your posture you may be able to reduce hunching and slouching. An improvement in posture can also reduce the discomfort level of those who suffer from back pain.

With the importance of correct posture becoming better known, back support braces are growing ever more popular. What do back braces actually do for you?

Posture corrective braces improve your posture by helping encourage your back to remain in the correct upright position. They do not do this by holding your back in place, as this would simply encourage degeneration of the muscles designed to do this. What they actually do is ‘remind’ you to maintain good posture. If you start slouching the presence of the back support brace will remind you to return your spine to the correct position.

If you suffer from back problems requiring the use of a posture corrective brace, it is important you don’t just buy a brace and consider yourself done. The use of a medical back brace should be combined with an appropriate exercise program to strengthen the muscles responsible for your posture.

When shopping for a posture corrective brace, be sure that your purchase one that fits you correctly. A brace that is uncomfortably tight will be very difficult to wear. Some materials, such as latex, tend to trap a lot of heat. Braces made of these may cause you to sweat, and other materials should be considered instead.

If your vanity demands that the fact you are wearing a back brace for posture be hidden, you face some challenges. Unless you wear very concealing and/or baggy clothes, it is very hard to completely conceal a useful posture corrective brace. My advice is that unless you have a hot date or similar big event, don’t worry about the appearance. You’ll probably find that most people don’t notice or care that you are wearing a brace.

If you believe you need a back support brace, be sure to consult with a doctor. Self-diagnosing medical conditions on the internet is inherently dangerous. Also, a doctor may be able to suggest a particular brand or type of posture corrective brace that is particularly appropriate to your personal circumstances.

Do you feel the need to change your looks? If you are slumping or slouch you can look generally grumpy, it is time to look into posture support. The right poster corrective brace can do wonders for your back. If you experience posture problems, you are likely to experience back as well posture problems. The proper posture brace can help provide relieve from the agony of back pain, slouching and hunching. Imbalance postured can even pave the way for rounded shoulders as well that of a dowager’s dump.

Good posture support is essential when you sit for a very long time, such as in front of a computer working. Keeping the spine in an upright position can be difficult; a posture brace can assist with this. Apart from the benefits to the spine of a good posture corrective brace, your body can benefit in other ways. The good posture maintained by a posture support encourages proper breathing, which in turn aids good blood circulation in your veins. A posture supportive brace can also help prevent Osteoporosis as well as other problems linked to bad posture.

There are various types of posture corrective braces available, but your ideal posture corrective brace must be comfortable as well as supportive. Apart from giving the much needed posture brace, it should not be a burden to wear your posture corrective brace for maintaining proper posture support. When selecting the posture corrective brace, determine the part of the back that needs posture support. The reason you are opting for posture brace will influence your posture corrective brace buying decision.

If you suffer from rounded shoulders, the posture brace you will select is a different type to that used to provide support for the spine. Some posture corrective braces can be used only for certain periods of time, depending upon the extent or nature of the problem they are intended to address.

People have started to understand the importance of posture support and about how posture corrective braces helps to keep the back in the right position. The perfect form of posture corrective brace will provide the right posture bracing, but not work on your behalf. I.e. they act as strong reminders to help you maintain correct posture, but your own muscular and skeletal system does the work.

To help alleviate the pain and problems caused by poor posture, the proper posture corrective brace has the potential to be a great tool. If you believe you are a candidate for one of these devices, please consult your doctor for professional medical advice.

People who have problems with their backs should consult a health specialist or doctor who can diagnose the problem right away. Any problem involving the backbone can really be dangerous and may also affect one’s posture.

Some physicians or health experts will suggest the use of a posture corrective brace as a curative measure. This is not only needed by those who have had problems diagnosed with their backs or spine but also those who want to correct or improve their posture. A posture support brace can be of use for a variety of applications.

A back posture brace for women or for men provides posture support to help you stand tall and straight with good posture. Keep in mind that how you present yourself will affect the perception of people on you. If you stand tall and full of confidence, then you will be respected and be noticed immediately.

To correct or improve one’s posture, one must know exactly how to pick a posture corrective brace. The right posture back brace should be strong and of good quality. It is also important that you try it on first to know if it can really provide posture support. Some of these posture corrective brace models simply do not fit right, so trying it on will help you determine if it is the right posture brace for you. Aside from this, check on what material it is made of. Some of these posture braces can give one allergies. If you suffer from allergies, make sure that the model you choose is hypoallergenic.
